Old Town

Old Town / Altstädter Markt
The Altstädter Markt is Hanau’s historical center and still bears witness to the city’s development today. Where merchants and craftsmen once gathered, the area is now characterized by historical buildings, public facilities, and a vibrant community. The square combines urban history with modern functions and serves as both a place to linger and a meeting point. The mix of established structures, modern services, and cultural use makes the Altstädter Markt a defining location within the city fabric. Due to its central location, it also plays an important role in the city’s public life.
Commercial activity in the Old Town
The Altstädter Markt is a central location for commercial use in Hanau’s Old Town. Restaurants, cafés, craft businesses, and art studios are permanently established here and shape the character of the square. In our buildings, you will find a wide selection of interesting gastronomy: the restaurant “Deins” with regional cuisine, “Dona Eva” with Peruvian specialties, “Natürlich Eiszeit” with handmade ice cream, and “Il Felice” for an Italian lifestyle.

Schlossplatz / House of Juvenile Justice
A lot has happened at Schlossplatz in recent years. The Indian restaurant Soul Tikka has been enriching the neighborhood since July 2023, followed by Chez Kim with sushi and Asian specialties in October 2025. The House of Juvenile Justice opened in September 2023 after five years of construction. Here, the police, youth court assistance services, and the public prosecutor’s office work under one roof.
This combination of gastronomic use and public institutions strengthens Schlossplatz as a mixed-use location with high foot traffic. The House of Juvenile Justice plays a special role and is unique in this form throughout Hesse.
