The Altstädter Markt is a central location for commercial use in Hanau’s Old Town. Restaurants, cafés, craft businesses, and art studios are permanently established here and shape the character of the square. A lot has happened at Schlossplatz in recent years. The Indian restaurant Soul Tikka has been enriching the neighborhood since July 2023, followed by Chez Kim with sushi and Asian specialties in October 2025. The House of Juvenile Justice opened in September 2023 after five years of construction. Here, the police, youth court assistance services, and the public prosecutor’s office work under one roof.
This combination of gastronomic use and public institutions strengthens Schlossplatz as a mixed-use location with high foot traffic. The House of Juvenile Justice plays a special role and is unique in this form throughout Hesse.
